2027: Kwankwaso unveils son as NDC deputy governorship candidate

Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has unveiled his son, Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, as the deputy governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general elections in Kano State.

The announcement was confirmed on Monday by Habibu Mohammad, spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

Mustapha Kwankwaso, the former Kano State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, will run alongside Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, a long-time associate of Kwankwaso, on the party’s joint ticket.

Mustapha had earlier served in the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf before resigning alongside other cabinet members following political realignments linked to the governor’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Gwarzo, who also previously served as deputy governor under Yusuf, resigned his position amid heightened political tensions in the state. While he attributed his exit to personal reasons, his tenure had been shadowed by allegations of financial impropriety raised by the State House of Assembly.

The Kwankwasiyya Movement, led by Senator Kwankwaso, has maintained that it is repositioning itself to reclaim political control of Kano State from the APC following recent defections and shifting alliances within the state’s political landscape.

The group says it remains focused on grassroots mobilisation and strengthening its structure ahead of the 2027 elections.
