The Initiative Against Human Rights Abuse and Torture (INAHURAT) has called for an investigation into allegations surrounding the issuance of an international passport to a woman linked to an ongoing land fraud case before the Federal High Court, Abuja.
The group, at a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, alleged that the development may have undermined a court restriction placed on the suspect’s movement.
INAHURAT, led by Barrister Maxwell Chibuike Opara, alleged that Rebecca Omokamo Godwin-Isaac, also known as Hajia Bilikisu Ishaqu Aliyu, who is reportedly involved in a pending land-related legal matter, was issued another passport despite what the group described as an existing travel restriction.
The organisation claimed that the suspect’s original passport was in custody as part of her bail conditions in the ongoing case, but alleged that a fresh passport was issued by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) on February 15, 2025.
The group urged relevant authorities to conduct a forensic review of the passport issuance process to determine whether any rules or court directives were breached.
It further alleged that some officials involved in aspects of the investigation had faced pressure and called for an inquiry into the claims.
INAHURAT also raised concerns over alleged leaks of confidential documents relating to the investigation, asking authorities to determine the source of the information.
The group appealed to the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) to intervene by ensuring an independent review of the matter and investigating any official found to have acted improperly.
It also urged the Minister of Interior and other relevant agencies to examine the alleged passport issue and take appropriate action if wrongdoing is established.
The group further requested that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) review the suspect’s bail conditions in light of the allegations.
The allegations by INAHURAT as at presd time have not been independently verified.
The affected parties, including the suspect and relevant agencies, were not available for comment at the time of filing this report.
