The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Rabiu Shuaibu, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), winner of the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency by-election in Kano State.
The Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Umar Sani, announced the result on Saturday following the conclusion of the poll conducted across the constituency on June 20.
According to the official results released by INEC, Shuaibu secured 35,356 votes to emerge victorious in the contest.
His closest challengers trailed significantly behind, with Lawal Garba Haruna of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) polling 268 votes, while Abubakar Yahya Muhammad of the Labour Party (LP) garnered 98 votes.
Declaring the result, Sani said the APC candidate fulfilled all constitutional and legal requirements required to be returned elected.
“That Rabiu Shuaibu of APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” the returning officer stated.
The outcome means the APC has successfully retained the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.
The by-election was conducted to fill the vacant seat representing the constituency, with voters across the area turning out to elect a new representative.
INEC officials, security personnel and election observers monitored the exercise, which concluded with the collation and announcement of results on Saturday.
