How five Ekiti LGAs delivered 47% of votes cast for Oyebanji

Governor Biodun Oyebanji

Ado Ekiti Local Government Area delivered the biggest votes to ensure the re-election of Governor Biodun Oyebanji in the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election held on Saturday, June 20.

The LGA delivered 38,026 votes and was followed by Irepodun/Ifelodun LGA, which delivered 29,278 votes. Others included Ekiti West (28,258), Ikole (26,508) and Ekiti East (26,359).

All five local government areas accounted for 47 per cent of the 319,224 votes Oyebanji and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) received.

Oyebanji emerged victorious in all 16 local government areas in the state. He, however, had a slight edge in Ikere LGA, where the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Wole Oluyede, hails from.

In the LGA, he got 11,116 votes against Oluyede’s 9,892, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dare Bejide, got 245 votes.

The final results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) show APC polling 319,224, PDP 40,543, and ADC 12,872.

In a statement, Oyebanji described his re-election as the voice of the people, saying it reverberated from every part of the state.

Expressing humility at the scale of the victory, Oyebanji said securing a clean sweep across all 16 local government areas, and 85 per cent of the popular vote, is a humbling vote of confidence from the Ekiti people.

“From our urban centres to our most remote communities, you have spoken with one thunderous voice for continuous development, stability, and a future of endless opportunities,” the governor said on X.

According to him, the mandate means that his work must reach every household even more deeply.

“There are no winners or losers today; there is only one united Ekiti determined to continue its journey of upward mobility.

“I pledge to honour this immense trust by continuing to lead with humility, dedication and fairness.

“Thank you, Ekiti Kete, for making history with us,” he said.
