Following recent launch of the Free TV in Abuja, members of the Electronic Media Content Owners Association of Nigeria (EMCOAN) and the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) are exploring collaborative opportunities.
Speaking during courtesy visit to NBC headquarters, EMCOAN President, Adeniji Omirin, discussed leveraging the newly launched FreeTV platform to create maximum value for its members.
Omirin also officially announced the upcoming Nigeria Electronic Media Content Excellence Awards (NEMCEA), set to hold from September 2 to 3, 2026 in Lagos.
EMCOAN, the umbrella body for independent TV and radio producers, is also working to populate the FreeTV platform with engaging, culturally rich Nigerian contents.
Responding, NBC Director General, Charles Ebuebu, reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to partnering with forward-thinking organisations. He noted that the NBC is dedicated to supporting bodies whose objectives align with driving the current digital convergence in the nation’s broadcast ecosystem.
Recall the Federal Government recently launched FreeTV, a new digital television platform aimed at expanding access to quality broadcasting and ushering in a new era of free digital television for millions of Nigerians.
The initiative, unveiled on June 17, forms part of Nigeria’s Digital Switch-Over (DSO) programme and is designed to provide households with access to over 100 television channels without monthly subscription fees. Viewers will be able to enjoy a wide range of content, including news, sports, movies, music, educational programmes, children’s content and dedicated indigenous language channels.
