Five states collectively received N87 billion, about 21.2 per cent of the total N410.9 billion being value-added tax (VAT) revenue shared to the 36 states in April 2026.
This is contained in the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) report published by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
With the take-off of the implementation of the new Nigeria Tax Act 2025, states now receive a higher share of VAT revenue.
The N410.898 billion shared to the 36 states is 55 per cent of the total distributable VAT revenue based on the new Nigeria Tax Act 2025 VAT sharing formula. The new act increased states’ share of VAT revenue from 50 per cent to 55 per cent, while the Federal Government’s share dropped from 15 per cent to 10 per cent.
Analysis of the data shows that Lagos State received the highest share of N35.03 billion, accounting for 8.5 per cent of the total figure received by states. Lagos was followed by Rivers state at N21.29 billion or 5.2 per cent.
Oyo state got the third-highest share at N12.33 billion or three per cent.
Kano and Akwa Ibom states received N9.31 billion and N9.04 billion, respectively.
On the other hand, Nasarawa state received the lowest share of N4.9 billion, while Yobe and Cross River states each got N5.04 billion and N5.12 billion, respectively.
According to the report, gross VAT revenue in April was N806.617 billion. After deductions, N747.088 billion was shared among the three tiers of government.
NBS also reports that in the month of April 2026, Delta state received the highest FAAC allocation at N53.77 billion, closely followed by Rivers state at N46.64 billion and Akwa Ibom at N44.84 billion.
Cross River state received the least allocation at N11.46 billion, followed by Ekiti state (N12.13 billion) and Gombe (N12.32 billion).
Highlights of the FAAC report showed that the revenue-generating agencies comprising the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) received N57.52 billion and N23.56 billion, respectively, as cost of revenue collections.
The total amount disbursed by FAAC during the month was N2.63 trillion, comprising N1.7 trillion from the Statutory Account, N200 billion from non-oil revenue, N68.1 billion from solid minerals revenue and N664.42 billion from VAT.
