New COWA chairperson pledges expanded social impact

Nabila Nura Miko

The newly inaugurated Chairperson of the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA), Port & Terminal Multi-services Limited (PTML) Chapter, Nabila Nura Miko, has assumed office and pledged to strengthen welfare support systems for members, expand empowerment initiatives and deepen community service outreach activities.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, held at the PTML Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in Lagos, Miko commended the immediate past chairperson, Mrs Ifeoluwa Anani, for laying a strong foundation through impactful programmes, pledging to consolidate on her achievements while introducing new initiatives that align with the association’s core mandate.

Miko said the outgoing administration recorded notable interventions, including programmes that focused on health sensitisation campaigns such as breast cancer awareness, women empowerment workshops, environmental sensitisation advocacy programmes and community outreach activities.

She said her administration will build on the land and expand these achievements while strengthening welfare structures, expanding empowerment opportunities for members, and deepening our community impacts.

The new chairperson outlined her administration’s focus on three priority areas: enhanced welfare support for officers’ wives, expanded skills acquisition and financial independence programmes and increased participation in health, education, and environmental and other social development initiatives.

Miko called for unity and collaboration among members, the PTML Command, and stakeholders, stressing that collective effort would be critical to achieving the association’s objectives.

The Customs Area Controller of PTML Command, Nura Miko, congratulated the new leadership, describing the transition as a reaffirmation of continuity and shared commitment to service within the Customs family.

He lauded COWA members for their supportive role in maintaining stable homes for officers, adding that such stability contributes immensely to operational efficiency in the NCS.

“The home front remains critical to our effectiveness in revenue collection, trade facilitation, and anti-smuggling operations,” he said.

He commended the association for its contribution to officers’ welfare and family stability.
