Ogun State has secured a fresh $250 million investment in its agricultural sector as Pure Dairy Herds, a specialised cattle breeding and milk production company, unveiled plans to establish one of Nigeria’s largest dairy farms in the state.
The company’s representative, Mr. Farouk Gumel, disclosed this on Tuesday after a meeting with Governor Dapo Abiodun at the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Gumel said the firm is partnering with international experts to develop a world-class dairy farm aimed at increasing local milk production, reducing Nigeria’s dependence on dairy imports and strengthening the country’s agricultural value chain.
He revealed that the company has completed the acquisition of land for the project in Ogun West Senatorial District, paving the way for the commencement of development.
According to him, Ogun State was selected because of its investor-friendly policies, conducive business environment and ongoing infrastructure development, particularly in Ogun West.
He also commended the host communities for their support and cooperation, describing the location as ideal for large-scale dairy farming.
“Ogun is the best. We already have operations in the state, and this project reflects how well we have been received and treated,” Gumel said.
“We are fortunate to have Ogun State as our host, and we are particularly excited about expanding into Ogun West, which holds enormous potential, especially with the critical infrastructure projects taking place in the area.
“For now, we are looking at an initial investment of $250 million, but as we continue to expand, that figure is expected to increase.”
Gumel further disclosed that preparations were underway for the groundbreaking ceremony, which is expected to take place within the next two to three weeks.
The project is expected to significantly boost local dairy production, create employment opportunities, stimulate economic activities in Ogun West and further strengthen Ogun State’s reputation as a preferred destination for both local and foreign investment.
