Police probe delivery of live ammunition to First Bank MD’s Lagos residence

Lagos State Police Command

The Lagos State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the delivery of a parcel containing two live rounds of ammunition to the residence of the Managing Director of First Bank of Nigeria (FBN), Oluwasegun Alebiosu.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai, who confirmed the incident yesterday, described it as a serious matter.

He disclosed that investigations were ongoing to identify those responsible for the parcel, which was delivered to the bank chief’s residence in the Ikoyi area of Lagos.

Speaking during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Ikeja, where he highlighted major achievements recorded by the command over the past two weeks, the commissioner said:

“There is a case like that which we are presently investigating, and it happened precisely on May 7, 2026.

“The MD of First Bank reported that he received a parcel that had been collected on his behalf by a security guard at his residence. Upon opening the parcel, he discovered two live rounds of ammunition. The ammunition is precisely 7.62mm calibre. The matter raised serious concern, and we immediately commenced investigations.”

He added that no suspect had been arrested in connection with the case but assured that detectives were pursuing all available leads to uncover those behind the act.

“Although the complainant mentioned some people he suspects may be behind the act, that remains his suspicion. I can assure you that our investigations will reveal those truly responsible for the matter,” he said.

Meanwhile, the commissioner urged the public to refrain from speculation as investigations continue, stressing that all claims and suspicions would be subjected to thorough scrutiny before any conclusions are reached.

He added that no individual or organisation had been linked to the incident at this stage.

The police assured that the investigation would be comprehensive and that those responsible would be identified and brought to justice.

Earlier, sources familiar with the incident said the package was delivered by a dispatch rider and received by security personnel at Alebiosu’s residence before it was handed over to him, as it was addressed directly to him and marked “confidential”.

Upon opening the parcel, the First Bank chief reportedly discovered two live rounds of ammunition concealed inside an unmarked envelope. The package allegedly contained no accompanying letter, message or any information that could reveal the identity of the sender.

The incident occurred amid ongoing reforms and operational restructuring within the bank, including intensified efforts to recover outstanding loans from debtors.

A source close to the bank described the parcel as a possible act of intimidation targeted at the bank’s leadership.
