Lagos Police rule out bomb attack, attribute vehicle incident to mechanical failure

Lagos State Police Command

The Lagos State Police Command has concluded its investigation into a recent explosion-related incident involving a vehicle, ruling out terrorism, sabotage or any form of criminal use of explosives.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, and signed by SP Abimbola Adebisi, the Command said findings from a comprehensive investigation established that the incident was causedby amechanical failure rather than an explosive device.

According to the police, forensic and technical examinations found no evidence linking the incident to an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), terrorist activity or any other criminal act.

“The investigation conclusively established that the incident was not caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), terrorist activity, sabotage or any form of criminal use of explosives,” the statement said.

The Command explained that investigators found no traces of explosive materials, detonators, initiation systems, explosive residues or blast characteristics typically associated with bomb attacks.

Rather, the investigation revealed that the incident resulted from the catastrophic failure of a pressurised mechanical component located outside the vehicle. The sudden failure reportedly triggered a rapid release of energy, causing the front passenger-side glass panels of the vehicle to shatter and resulting in minor injuries to the occupant.

“Based on the findings of the investigation, the incident has been professionally classified as a Mechanical Explosion,” the statement added. The police reassured residents of Lagos State and the general public that there was no security threat associated with the incident and urged citizens to remain calm while continuing to cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
