Nigeria-UK forum to mobilise diaspora investment in agriculture, food security

NIDCOM Chairman, Abike Dabiri-Erewa

Hundreds of Nigerians living across the United Kingdom are expected to gather in Leeds on July 4, 2026 for the Nigeria-UK Green Gold Forum.

The initiative aims to mobilise diaspora investment, expertise and strategic partnerships to support Nigeria’s food security, agribusiness development, job creation and sustainable economic growth.

The forum, organised by Xtralarge Farms & Resorts in collaboration with the Nigerian Community Leeds (NCL), will hold at the BAME Health & Wellbeing Hub in Leeds, bringing together members of the Nigerian diaspora, investors, entrepreneurs and stakeholders to explore investment opportunities in Nigeria’s agricultural sector.

The event is being held with the support of Councillor Abigail Marshall Katung, the 130th Lord Mayor of Leeds (2024–2025), in recognition of her efforts to strengthen diaspora engagement and encourage Nigerians abroad to contribute to national development.

According to the organisers, the forum is designed to create practical pathways for diaspora Nigerians to invest in agriculture, agritourism, healthy food enterprises and agri-real estate while promoting food security, employment generation and financial empowerment in Nigeria.

Speaking on the significance of the initiative, the Co-Founder and Group Managing Director of Xtralarge Farms & Resorts, Dr. Mrs. Moji Davids, described agriculture as Nigeria’s greatest untapped economic asset and called on Nigerians in the diaspora to move beyond remittances by investing in sustainable ventures that create jobs and strengthen the country’s food systems.

She said the Nigeria-UK Green Gold Forum would provide a platform for transforming goodwill into measurable impact through investments, innovation, partnerships and knowledge transfer.

The forum, themed “Agribusiness, Food & Agritourism: Our New Gold Frontiers,” will feature discussions on high-value agribusiness and agritourism investment opportunities, healthy food enterprises, agri-real estate investments, the Diaspora Farm Estate initiative, and strategies for promoting enterprise, employment and sustainable community development.

According to a statement issued on Sunday, the initiative aligns with the vision of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) under the leadership of Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa to deepen diaspora participation in national development.

The statement added that it also complements the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda by encouraging private-sector investment, increased food production, entrepreneurship and inclusive economic growth.

The organisers further disclosed that the Leeds gathering marks the first in a broader international engagement programme aimed at connecting Nigerians across the diaspora with structured investment opportunities in agriculture and rural development.

“Another edition of the Nigeria-UK Green Gold Forum is scheduled for August 2026, while the Diaspora Farm Estates initiative will be launched in both the United Kingdom and Canada later in the same month to provide collective investment opportunities in commercial agriculture.

“We believe the forum will evolve into a flagship platform for strengthening economic ties between Nigeria and its global diaspora, fostering strategic partnerships, and positioning agriculture as a key driver of sustainable prosperity and wealth creation.”
