Uba Sani pledges to support family of woman killed by mob

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has pledged that the state government will assume responsibility for the welfare and education of the children of Ummulkhairi Usman Aliyu, the woman who was lynched by a mob in the Maraban Jos area of the state over allegations of child theft.

The governor made the commitment during a condolence visit to the bereaved family, describing the incident as a tragic loss that demands not only justice but sustained government support for those left behind.

Speaking with the deceased’s husband and other family members, Sani assured them that the Kaduna State Government would not abandon the family in their time of grief.

According to him, the administration has resolved to take responsibility for the education and general welfare of the children left behind by the deceased, saying the government’s duty extends beyond condemning the incident to providing meaningful support for the affected family.

The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring justice, stressing that every individual involved in the mob attack would be identified and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

He disclosed that security agencies had already made significant progress in the investigation, with dozens of suspects facing prosecution, while investigations continue to identify other persons linked to the incident.

According to the governor, 41 suspects have been arraigned for culpable homicide, another 30 have been charged with unlawful assembly, while 17 individuals found not to be culpable have been released. He added that investigations are continuing into the roles of 41 other suspects, with efforts ongoing to arrest additional persons believed to have participated in the attack.

Sani further assured the family that any security personnel found to have been directly or indirectly complicit in the incident would also face the full weight of the law, emphasizing that no one would be shielded from accountability.

The governor described mob justice as a dangerous threat to the rule of law and urged residents to allow security agencies and the courts to handle criminal allegations rather than resorting to violence.

The victim, an Islamic teacher, was reportedly attacked after she was accused of child theft while trying to locate a venue in the Maraban Jos community. Despite reportedly being in police custody, she was allegedly forcefully taken away by an angry mob and killed, sparking widespread outrage and renewed calls for an end to jungle justice.

The latest intervention by the Kaduna State Government signals an effort to combine justice with social support, as authorities seek to provide relief for the bereaved family while reinforcing the message that mob violence has no place in a society governed by the rule of law.
