Nab man for alleged drug-related offences in Borno
The Lagos State Police Command said its operatives have arrested a 21-year-old man identified as Samson Onilewaji, who was allegedly found in possession of a human body part, firearms and other suspected stolen items.
The suspect was arrested during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Lekki-Epe Expressway after officers intercepted an unregistered commercial shuttle bus with six occupants.
On searching the vehicle, Onilewaji was allegedly found with a human right hand, two locally made pistols, one live cartridge, two axes, one POS terminal and five Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards. The suspect reportedly confessed to recently robbing three persons of their belongings, including the recovered POS terminal and ATM cards.
The Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said efforts were ongoing to identify and return the recovered property to the victims, while the police continue the investigations to determine the person whose hand was also recovered, the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s possession of it and its intended use.
Furthermore, “efforts are being intensified to identify and apprehend other criminal associates connected to the suspect. He will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations,” Hundeyin said.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has assured residents of the command’s commitment to combating violent crimes and urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to aid crime prevention.
In another development, the Delta State Police Command said it has arrested two suspected electric cable vandals identified as Osakwe Sunday, 28, and Ekene Obocha, 34, and recovered the vandalised electric cables.
According to the command, this followed a distress call to the Kwale Police Division on June 25, 2026, that suspected vandals were dismantling and stealing electric cables along the Ibabu-Ugiliamai Road. The command further disclosed that one of the suspects sustained injuries and was receiving treatment, and the other in its custody.
Also, the Borno State Police Command said it intercepted a large consignment of illicit drugs along the Baga Road bypass in Maiduguri. In a statement, the spokesperson, ASP Nahum Daso, disclosed that acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the X-Squad intercepted an Isuzu Bedford pick-up van on June 26 at about 7:10 p.m.
On searching the vehicle, 55 sacks containing dozens of 60ml bottles of the illicit substance popularly known as “Gum” were intercepted. According to Daso, preliminary investigations revealed that the substances were being transported to Ngamboru Ngala Local Council Area for onward smuggling across international borders.
However, the driver, Babagana Modu, 51, was arrested and has reportedly confessed to having been contracted to transport the consignment. The police said efforts were ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate.
