Seven suspects arrested for armed robbery, others in Ogun

Seven suspects have been arrested in separate operations by the Ogun State Police Command over alleged armed robbery, one-chance robbery, obtaining money by false pretence, unlawful possession of firearms and cult-related activities.

The suspects are identified as Bola Salau (42), Segun Balogun (25), Emmanuel Friday, Tunde Abioye, Ankpa James, Tunde Ogunseye (41), and Owodunni Seun (36).

The police also recovered a stolen Toyota Venza, three firearms (two locally fabricated pistols and one Dane gun), a Toyota Camry allegedly used by a one-chance robbery syndicate, 17 stolen mobile phones, an HP EliteBook laptop, two expended cartridges, three power banks, a rechargeable touch light and N1.1 million.

The Command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, said the arrests followed a series of intelligence-led operations across the state. He noted that in the first operation, operatives of the Ilaro Area Command arrested Salau and Balogun during a stop-and-search operation along the Oja-Odan/Ilaro Road.

According to him, during a search of their vehicle, the original registration documents hidden beneath the carpet were recovered. He added that further investigations showed that the vehicle had been stolen during an armed robbery attack in Ede, Osun State, on June 23, 2026.

In another operation, operatives of the Ibafo Division arrested Friday and Abioye over their alleged involvement in a one-chance robbery syndicate after a victim reported being dispossessed of a Samsung A16 phone and N120,000. The police also recovered a Toyota Camry allegedly used by the gang.

At Mowe Division, the police arrested Ankpa for allegedly obtaining N1,276,000 from a 21-year-old man under the false promise of facilitating his travel to Luxembourg. The suspect reportedly confessed during interrogation, while N1.1 million was recovered and returned to the complainant on bond.

Meanwhile, operatives of Adatan Division also arrested a suspected cultist, Ogunseye, who allegedly attempted to attack security personnel with a locally made pistol before he was overpowered.

During a search of his residence, another locally made pistol was recovered, the police said, adding that investigations also linked him to the Eiye Confraternity and alleged drug dealing.

In Ode-Remo, operatives foiled an armed robbery targeting students at Itun-Raye, with a suspect, Owodunni Seun, later arrested following a manhunt after the gang fled into a nearby bush during a gun battle with police and local vigilantes. The police said one Dane gun, two expended cartridges, an HP EliteBook laptop, 17 mobile phones and other exhibits abandoned by the fleeing suspects were recovered.
