Tinubu commissions rehabilitated Karu road network

President Bola Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu yesterday described the newly rehabilitated and expanded road network linking the Karu Interchange to the Customs Clinic Junction and adjoining roads in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) as another milestone in his administration’s commitment to modernising infrastructure and improving the quality of life for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) residents.

Commissioning the road, the president, who was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, said the project exemplifies the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to extend development to communities where Nigerians live, work and commute.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony in Karu, Tinubu explained that the road project was designed to tackle the perennial traffic congestion along one of the busiest gateways into the nation’s capital, while stimulating economic activities in the densely populated district.

“By expanding and rehabilitating these roads, we are not just laying asphalt; we are injecting life back into the local economy,” he stated, adding that the improved road network would significantly reduce travel time, eliminate gridlock and create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.

The president also highlighted the installation of modern solar-powered streetlights along the corridor, saying the initiative would improve road safety, enhance visibility for motorists and reduce criminal activities at night.

Meanwhile, Tinubu commended the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as his focused and relentless supervision of the FCT’s urban renewal programme. According to him, “the rapid physical transformation across Abuja could not have happened without the dogged, relentless and focused supervision of the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike.

“His aggressive implementation of our urban renewal master plan is visible for everyone to see.”

He added that by prioritising infrastructure in strategic satellite communities such as Karu, alongside projects within the city centre, the FCT Administration had demonstrated that development under the administration was inclusive and beneficial to all residents regardless of social status.

Tinubu also commended the project’s contractor, Abdul-Val Nigeria Limited, for delivering the job on schedule and to a high standard, describing the company’s performance as proof that indigenous firms can compete favourably with international construction companies in quality and project execution.

Earlier, Wike thanked Tinubu for attending nine of the 14 project commissioning events organised to mark the administration’s third anniversary, describing his presence as a demonstration of his commitment to infrastructure development.

He said the administration had gone beyond the initial scope of work to execute additional roads requested by the president, including access roads serving key public institutions. According to Wike, the visible transformation in Karu underscores the administration’s resolve to spread development across every district of the FCT.
