The Charly Boy Foundation has announced the official launch of “999: Memoir of Charly Boy,” the autobiography of renowned Nigerian entertainer, activist and cultural icon, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy or Area Fada.
According to the organisers, the book launch is scheduled for Friday, July 31, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at the Mike Adenuga Centre, Ikoyi, Lagos.
The event is expected to celebrate the remarkable life journey of Charles Oputa, highlighting his contributions to the entertainment industry, social advocacy and his enduring influence on Nigerian culture.
Former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, is expected to serve as the Chief Host of the occasion. Other invited guests include prominent business leaders, government officials, members of the diplomatic community, media personalities and other distinguished stakeholders from across the country.
The foundation stated that beyond celebrating Charly Boy’s life and legacy, the event will also support its advocacy programmes aimed at promoting positive social impact, particularly in the area of men’s health.
Speaking during a press conference held at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club ahead of the launch, Charles Oputa described the memoir as a complete account of his life’s journey.
“My experiences in life are documented in this book. It captures my struggles, challenges and victories. The title ‘999’ symbolises the end of one phase and the beginning of another. It represents renewal and a new chapter in life.
I am delighted that former President Olusegun Obasanjo will host the launch, and I sincerely appreciate the support of the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club in making this vision a reality,” he said.
Oputa also spoke on the objectives of the Charly Boy Foundation, explaining that the organisation is committed to promoting men’s health, particularly prostate cancer awareness and early detection.
“Our goal is to ensure that men, who are often the heads of their families, remain healthy. When the head of a family is not healthy, the entire family is affected
That is why the foundation has volunteered to conduct free prostate cancer screening for men to encourage early detection and prompt treatment,” he added.
Chief Executive Officer of the Charly Boy Foundation, Dr. Doris Udensi, said the foundation was established to create awareness about prostate cancer following Charly Boy’s personal experience with the disease.
“I am a pharmacist, and the Charly Boy Foundation was initiated to promote prostate cancer awareness. Charly Boy survived prostate cancer and decided to dedicate himself to helping other men. When a man is not healthy, it affects not only his physical wellbeing but also his mental health and overall quality of life,” she said.
Dr. Udensi encouraged men, particularly those advancing in age, to undergo regular medical check-ups, including blood sugar tests, blood pressure checks and prostate screening.
“Early detection remains one of the most effective ways to ensure successful treatment. Because many of these tests are expensive, the foundation has volunteered to provide free prostate cancer screening.
Interested participants can register through the foundation’s website www.charlyboy foundation.org . We also call on both government and private organisations to support and collaborate with us in expanding this initiative,” she added.
Head of Corporate Communications of the Charly Boy Foundation, Winfred Ebiye, described the partnership with the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club as an important step towards improving public awareness of men’s health issues.
He noted that the memoir would provide readers with a deeper understanding of Charles Oputa’s life, struggles and achievements.
President of the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Dr. Adeyinka Adewusi, expressed the club’s delight in partnering with the foundation.
“Charly Boy has remained an iconic figure in Nigerian society, and we are pleased to collaborate with his foundation. As a sports club, promoting the health and wellbeing of our members is one of our major priorities. We are proud to support the free prostate cancer screening initiative and to be associated with the launch of his memoir.
Documenting one’s life journey is important, and we believe this book will inspire many Nigerians,” he said.
The Charly Boy Foundation said the July 31 event is expected to be an evening of reflection, inspiration and celebration of resilience, courage, creativity and service to society while reinforcing the importance of men’s health awareness through its free prostate cancer screening initiative.
