The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved contracts worth about N128.7 billion for the rehabilitation of two major federal highways in Kogi West Senatorial District.
The approval was granted at Monday’s FEC meeting, covering the rehabilitation of the Ilorin–Omu-Aran–Egbe–Kabba–Obajana Road at a cost of N104 billion and the Kabba–Omuo–Ifaki–Ado Road valued at N24.7 billion. The projects are part of several road contracts approved across the country.
According to a statement by the media team of Senator Sunday Karimi, the projects align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises infrastructure development, improved connectivity, economic growth, and easier movement of people and goods.
The statement attributed the approval to Senator Karimi’s sustained advocacy and engagements with key government officials, particularly the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi. It added that the projects fulfil one of the senator’s campaign promises to prioritise the rehabilitation and reconstruction of dilapidated federal roads in Kogi West.
Reacting to the approval, Senator Karimi expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for prioritising infrastructure development and ensuring that Kogi State benefits from the administration’s road projects. He also commended the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, for what he described as his commitment to improving the nation’s road infrastructure.
The senator assured residents of Kogi West of his continued efforts to attract projects that would improve their welfare and stimulate economic growth in the district.
He expressed optimism that, upon completion, the road projects would improve transportation, enhance security, facilitate trade, and accelerate socio-economic development across Kogi West and adjoining communities.
Karimi also reaffirmed the support and loyalty of the people of Kogi West to President Tinubu’s administration in appreciation of the infrastructure projects.
