The Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to set up a reconciliatory committee that would address the grievances of the aggrieved aspirants during the last May party primaries, with the sole aim of bringing them back to its fold.
The primaries, especially the choice of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s successor, Speaker Yakubu Salihu Danladi, set the stage for the polarisation of the party that later, with supporters of various aggrieved governorship aspirants engaged in social media wars against the governor and Danladi-Salihu.
Meanwhile, a group of serving APC senators, serving members of the House of Representatives and governorship aspirants from Kwara State have appealed to President Bola Tinubu to urgently intervene in what they described as a deepening crisis threatening the future of the party in the state.
In a joint resolution issued on Monday, they expressed unwavering loyalty to President Tinubu and pledged their full support for his re-election bid in 2027, while commending his administration for what they described as unprecedented economic stability and the solid foundation laid through the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The stakeholders, however, warned that despite the progress at the national level, the APC in Kwara State was facing internal challenges that could undermine its electoral fortunes if left unresolved.
According to the resolution, the political coalition that gave birth to the Otoge movement, which ended decades of political dominance in the state, has allegedly been weakened under the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The group accused the governor of failing to provide inclusive leadership, alleging that many party leaders, loyalists and stakeholders who contributed to the party’s electoral success had been sidelined from both government and party affairs.
However, the state Chairman, Sunday Fagbemi, allegedly on the instruction of the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yiwata Goshwe, has confirmed and presented the governorship form to Danladi-Salihu at the APC secretariat in Ilorin.
Fagbemi told party members that the party would set up a reconciliatory committee that would ensure the return of aggrieved party members back into its fold. According to him, the committee would bring back others who had gone due to grievances.
