Osun State governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on Wednesday inaugurated the Lameco flyover in Osogbo, the state capital, emphasising that the protection of public infrastructure and assets should be prioritised by all stakeholders in society.
Adeleke, who cautioned against vandalism and trading on the facility and its underpass, restated the commitment of his administration to ensure equitable infrastructural development of all parts of the state.
While contending that the project was not isolated, the governor stated, “Today marks the commencement of the unveiling for public use of several mega-projects initiated by our government. This is part of our administration’s promise to rebuild Osun through infrastructure that touches everybody’s life – roads, bridges, health, education and water.”
Adeleke further averred that his government constructed the flyover and other mega-projects in accordance with due process and transparency and without mortgaging the future of our children, pointing out that “the high quality of this flyover confirms the workability of our local content model.”
“Conclusively, I charge the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure and our community stakeholders to protect this asset. There should be no street trading on the bridge or underpass. There should be no vandalisation of railing or light,” he remarked.
Adeleke, however, recalled that his administration had completed over 27 km in length of intracity roads in Osogbo, pointing out that “across the state, we have executed over 300 kilometres of roads. ” We have over 10 mega projects completed and ready for commissioning. We positively touch all major towns under our motto of equity and fairness in infrastructure innovation.”
Earlier in his remark, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Engr Idowu Bashir Bello, explained that the contract for the construction of the 4-span flyover bridge at Lameco Roundabout was one of the major projects promised by Adeleke to address the infrastructural deficit in the state at the assumption of office.
Giving details of the flyover, he said, “This has a total length of 672 m, including the retaining wall of four spans. Each carriageway is 5.5 m with a jersey kerb median. The flyover is illuminated with solar-powered street light. The traffic light is installed to serve as illumination for road users and to prevent accidents.”
