Oluremi Tinubu commissions digital health clinic to expand healthcare access in Jigawa

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu commissions the Senator Oluremi Tinubu digital health clinic in Hadejia, Jigawa State.

Residents of Hadejia and neighbouring communities in Jigawa State are set to benefit from improved access to specialist and technology-enabled healthcare following the commissioning of the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Clinic.

The digital health facility, located along Garun Gabas Road in Hadejia, was officially inaugurated by the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Chairperson of the Renewed Hope Initiative, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery in underserved communities.

The clinic was established through a partnership involving the EHA Clinics REACH (Reaching Everyone with Accessible Community Healthcare) Programme, FutureMap Foundation and eHealth Africa.

Designed as one of Jigawa State’s pioneering digital healthcare facilities, the clinic combines technology-driven healthcare solutions with patient-centred services to improve health outcomes while strengthening the state’s healthcare system.

For many residents of Hadejia and surrounding communities, accessing specialist medical care has often required travelling long distances, leading to delayed treatment or, in some cases, foregoing medical attention altogether.

The new facility seeks to address those challenges by providing comprehensive primary and specialist healthcare services within the community, reducing barriers to quality care while improving access for thousands of residents.

A major feature of the clinic is its kidney care programme, introduced in response to the increasing prevalence of kidney-related illnesses in the region.

Through a free dialysis programme, patients who previously had limited access to life-saving renal treatment can now receive care closer to home. The clinic successfully carried out its first dialysis procedure on June 28, 2026, marking a significant milestone in specialist healthcare delivery within Jigawa State.

In addition to renal care, the facility offers a wide range of healthcare services, including general outpatient care, maternal and child health services, ambulatory care, surgical services, therapeutic drug monitoring, pharmaceutical services and telemedicine consultations.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Chief Operating Officer of EHA Clinics, Paul M. Hogan, said the project demonstrates what can be achieved when governments, development organisations and healthcare providers collaborate to improve access to quality healthcare.

“Healthcare should never be defined by geography. Through the REACH Programme, our goal is to ensure that communities have access to quality healthcare where they live. This clinic represents what is possible when government, development partners and healthcare providers work together with a shared purpose and vision. It is more than a healthcare facility; it is an investment in healthier families, stronger communities and a better future for Jigawa State,” he said.

According to the partners, EHA Clinics will oversee clinical governance, facility management, workforce development, quality assurance and digital health services through its REACH Programme.

FutureMap Foundation is providing strategic investment to support the expansion of community healthcare infrastructure, while eHealth Africa is contributing digital health technology and innovation to strengthen healthcare delivery and improve patient care.

The commissioning ceremony attracted governors from the North-West geopolitical zone, senior federal and state government officials, heads of ministries, departments and agencies, traditional rulers, healthcare professionals, development partners and community leaders.

Stakeholders described the facility as an important step towards improving equitable healthcare access in Northern Nigeria, particularly for underserved communities where specialist services remain limited.

Beyond providing healthcare services, the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Clinic is expected to serve as a model for technology-enabled community healthcare, demonstrating how strategic partnerships and digital innovation can strengthen local health systems and improve patient outcomes.

The EHA Clinics REACH (Reaching Everyone with Accessible Community Healthcare) Programme is designed to expand access to quality healthcare for underserved and hard-to-reach communities across Nigeria through strategic partnerships, digital health innovation and sustainable community-based healthcare models.

EHA Clinics is an integrated healthcare provider with facilities in Abuja, Kano and Lagos. The organisation delivers technology-enabled, patient-centred healthcare services while working with governments, development partners and communities to strengthen health systems and improve health outcomes across Nigeria.
