President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, yesterday, charged the Nigerian contingent to the 2026 Commonwealth Games to be good ambassadors of the country as they depart for the Games holding in Glasgow, Scotland.
The team is expected to depart for Aberdeen today for a three-week camp to solidify their preparations for the Games, which will run from July 21 to August 2.
Tinubu, represented by the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, yesterday, officially bid farewell to the team at a gathering inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
While addressing the Nigerian contingent, made up of both home and foreign-based athletes, as well as coaches, President Tinubu urged them to represent the country with distinction and uphold Nigeria’s sporting tradition on the international stage.
Nigeria heads into the Games aiming to build on its performance at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, where it finished as the highest-ranked African nation after winning 35 medals-12 gold, nine silver and 14 bronze.
The country will be represented by a contingent of 74 athletes competing across 10 sports.
