Ogoni Leaders Renew Call for FG to Honour Pact

Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP)

The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) has urged the Federal Government to faithfully implement agreements reached with the Ogoni people, particularly those arising from the dialogue process coordinated by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

The group also resolved that, after 33 years, it is time to intensify efforts to end the long-running conflict between the Ogoni people and Nigeria’s oil industry, expressing optimism that the ongoing dialogue would produce a mutually beneficial resolution of the Ogoni question.

In a communiqué signed by MOSOP President, Fegalo Nsuke, and Secretary-General, Alex Akori, the organisation strongly condemned the growing wave of inter- and intra-communal conflicts in Ogoniland, urging all parties to embrace peaceful dialogue in resolving their differences.

MOSOP called on the Federal Government to ensure the honest and transparent implementation of all agreements reached through the ongoing dialogue process.

The group also appealed to the Ogoni people to respect one another, promote tolerance, and foster peace and good neighbourliness across their communities.

On the activities of herders in Ogoni communities, Nsuke urged critical stakeholders to engage the leadership of the Northern community in Rivers State in dialogue to find an amicable solution to the lingering challenge.

MOSOP further stressed the need for community leaders, youth groups, traditional rulers, women, politicians, students and professionals to actively participate in ongoing discussions on issues affecting the future of the Ogoni people.
