Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two suspects, Addulsalam Adam and Israel Salako, in separate armed robbery operations at Ogere and Ajuwon areas of the state.
The command said it also intercepted 89 vehicles and fined their drivers for alleged number plate violations and other traffic offences.
Spokesperson for the command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, explained in a statement that Abdulsalam was arrested by operatives of Ogere Division on July 3, 2026, over an armed robbery incident at Akuro Phase 1 in Ogere Remo.
He said the arrest followed joint operations by the police, the Ogun State Social Orientation and Safety Corps (So-Safe), and local vigilantes, as well as members of the community.
Babaseyi explained that the armed robbers invaded a residence and dispossessed occupants of two motorcycles, mobile phones, cash, and other valuables before attempting to flee.
However, “through coordinated tactical deployment and strategic interception, the operatives forced the suspects to abandon the two stolen motorcycles and escape into a nearby bush,” he noted.
According to Babaseyi, the coordinated efforts led to the arrest of Adam, who is currently assisting investigators with useful information. He listed the exhibits recovered from the scene to include a knife, one expended cartridge, and one broken padlock.
He added that efforts have been intensified to apprehend the fleeing members of the gang, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, for further investigation.
Also, operatives of the Ajuwon Division arrested Salako following a distress call that armed robbers had invaded a residence at Baale Akinosi in Ajuwon. Babaseyi said the robbers carted away mobile phones, jewellery, power banks, a laptop computer, a Toyota Camry, and other valuables.
According to him, the division’s anti-crime team immediately mobilised for a coordinated operation, and “on sighting the police, the fleeing hoodlums abandoned the stolen vehicle and escaped.” He added that Salako was already assisting investigators, as efforts continue to apprehend the remaining suspects and recover other stolen property.
Meanwhile, following the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, against vehicles operating without registration plates, the command said it intercepted 89 vehicles and sanctioned the drivers.
Babaseyi noted that the command took appropriate administrative and legal actions against the offenders, in accordance with extant laws and established procedures, including prosecution where applicable.
On his part, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, urged all motorists to comply with vehicle registration requirements, while the public should remain security conscious by boarding commercial vehicles only at designated motor parks and recognised loading points.
He further warned against patronising unbranded vehicles or private vehicles that illegally operate as commercial transporters, urging residents to share vehicle details and travel information with trusted relatives or friends before embarking on journeys, whenever practicable.
