Insecurity: “No Stranger Will Solve Challenges in the North”, Says Emir Sanusi

The Emir of Kano, Khalifa Dr Muhammadu Sanusi II

Emir of Kano , Khalifah Muhammadu Sanusi II has challenged Northern elites to raise against the incessant challenges bedeviling the region, reminded that ‘no messier’ will solve problems confronting the North

Besides, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) insisted traditional rulers and political elites in the North must work together to rebuild the region and improve the lives of the people, adding that Allah would question each person on what they did to better the society.

Sanusi gave the admonition during the weekend while peaking at the annual Dhikr and National Prayers organized by Tijaniyya sect held at the ancient palace.

According to him, “We must first change ourselves before asking Allah to change our situation. We cannot continue waiting for others to solve our problems. Even our own people have come and gone without doing what needed to be done.

“We must unite and work together to restore the lost glory of our land. There was a time when others looked up to us with admiration, but today the situation has changed. We are now labelled as illiterate, uneducated and lacking peace, even though many of these allegations are untrue.

“As traditional rulers and politicians, we must work together because Allah will ask each of us what we did to improve society. Let us pray that Allah grants us the strength and the opportunity to transform this region and improve the lives of our people”. Emir Sanusi added.

While using the occasion to applause Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration, Emir Sanusi reminded that he would have kept silent where the government goes wrongly in her social responsibilities to the people of Kano.

He recalled how he convinced the Tijaniyya Muslim group to consider Gov. Yusuf as preferred candidate in 2023 general elections, adding that some of the clerics put aside their political affiliations to support the governor in good faith.

He said neither he nor the clerics had ever approached the governor for favours, contracts or appointments for anyone’s children, stressing that their support was based on conviction rather than personal gain.

The monarch asserted that the governor had been working across rural and urban communities and in different sectors of the state. He said he would not hesitate to criticise the governor if he were not performing well, despite their brotherly relationship.

‘Your Excellency, our Governor, on behalf of all the clerics gathered here, I want to thank you. I told them in 2023 that you were my preferred candidate. Although some of them had political affiliations elsewhere, they put those aside and supported you.

“They did so in good faith. I have never approached you to ask for any favour, contract or appointment for anyone’s son. Neither have these clerics sought such benefits from you.

“They supported you because they believed it was the right thing to do. We are not asking for anything from you. We only ask that you love us as much as we love you”, Sanusi said.

Responding, Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to serving the people of Kano with sincerity, justice and fear of Allah, pledging to sustain policies and programmes that improve the lives of citizens.

He also thanked religious leaders across the state for their unwavering prayers and guidance, describing them as critical partners in promoting peace, unity and development in Kano State.
