Okoroma, SABA partner to boost West Africa energy ties

Scottish Africa Business Association (SABA)

Aberdeenshire-based business analyst George Okoroma, has entered into a strategic partnership with the Scottish Africa Business Association (SABA) to lead a senior delegation of West African energy professionals to Scotland in September 2026.

The initiative is aimed at strengthening business collaboration between Scottish energy companies and West African stakeholders while creating new opportunities for investment, technology transfer and commercial partnerships.

In a statement, the Chief Executive Officer of the Scottish Africa Business Association, Frazer Lang, said the programme was designed to maximise business outcomes by ensuring participants engage only in pre-qualified meetings with relevant partners.

The four-day programme, scheduled for September 1 to 4, will be anchored around the Energy Exports Conference taking place on September 2 and 3 in Aberdeen.

According to the organisers, the delegation will provide senior executives from West Africa with direct access to Scotland’s expertise in oil and gas, renewable energy and energy transition technologies through a series of curated engagements.

Lang said: “These include private business meetings with Scottish energy firms, closed-door roundtable discussions with industry leaders, site visits to strategic facilities such as Aberdeen Harbour, and a VIP networking dinner.

“Too often, international visits rely on chance encounters and missed opportunities. This delegation removes that uncertainty. Every meeting is pre-qualified, every introduction is purposeful and every moment is designed to deliver value and results.”

Okoroma, who is based in Aberdeenshire and currently serves as Senior Business Design and Analysis Lead at NatWest Group, said the partnership would bridge the gap between West African energy companies and Scotland’s globally recognised energy sector.

He noted that his professional experience across engineering, financial services and business transformation, combined with his collaboration with FIDIC Africa, positions him to facilitate meaningful partnerships between businesses on both sides.

Okoroma added, “West African energy companies have world-class ambitions. What this delegation does is remove the barriers between those ambitions and the Scottish expertise that can help realise them. I am proud to be the bridge that makes that connection possible.”

The organisers said the initiative comes at a time when West Africa is seeking to maximise the value of its hydrocarbon resources while accelerating investment in cleaner energy systems.

They noted that Scotland’s expertise in deepwater oil and gas operations, subsea engineering, offshore wind, hydrogen production, carbon capture and storage aligns with the evolving needs of West African energy markets.

The delegation programme will also feature technical sessions on oil and gas optimisation, well intervention, renewable energy, hydrogen, offshore wind, investment models and future energy systems.

Organisers said participation would be limited to ensure a highly focused and productive engagement, with places allocated on a first-come, first-served basis to senior professionals across the energy value chain.

Beyond the September delegation, Okoroma will also provide ongoing business development and representation services for West African energy companies seeking to establish or expand their presence in Aberdeen and the wider Scottish energy market.

The partnership is expected to deepen commercial ties between Scotland and West Africa while opening new opportunities for collaboration across the oil, gas and renewable energy sectors.
