• D’Tigers begin campaign against Cameroon August 27
World basketball ruling body, FIBA, has confirmed that the fourth window of the 2027 World Cup African qualifying series will be held in Tunisia and Senegal from August 27 to 30.
According to FIBA, Tunisia will host the first round of Group E at the iconic Salle Multidisciplinaire de Radès on the outskirts of Tunis, while Senegal will host the first round of Group F at the Dakar Arena.
Nigeria (4-2) is Group E of the bracket alongside Cameroon (5-1), Guinea (4-2), Tunisia (4-2), South Sudan (4-2), and Cape Verde (3-3).
Teams in Group F include Senegal (5-1), Côte d’Ivoire (5-1), Mali (5-1), Angola (4-2), Egypt (3-3), and the Democratic Republic of Congo (2-4).
Nigeria will begin its campaign with a game against group leaders Cameroon on August 27, meet South Sudan on August 28, and then take on Cape Verde on August 30. The matches will be held at the Salle Multidisciplinaire de Radès, Tunisia.
The D’Tigers, who were at risk of failing to make the World Cup due to poor performances in the first two qualifying windows, revived their campaign with a clean sweep of the third window, with the team demonstrating resilience, improved chemistry, and consistent execution across all three games.
The three victories in the third window held in Angola significantly strengthened Nigeria’s quest to qualify for the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup and restore confidence after previous setbacks in the qualification campaign.
FIBA said in a statement yesterday that the hosts of the fifth and final windows of the African qualifiers will be announced at a later date.
