Yobe Police arrest 14 for drug-related offences

The Yobe State Police command has nabbed 14 suspects over an alledged drug-related offences with recovery of large quantities of illicit drugs in Bade, Yusufari and Jakusko Local Government Areas of the state.

The command said the arrest of over a dozen suspects are to sustain its operations against criminal activities across the State through coordinated raids, intelligence-led patrols, and other proactive policing strategies aimed at enhancing public safety and preventing crime.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim disclosed; “On 11th July 2026, at about 2:00 p.m, the Area Commander in Gashua, led a coordinated operation involving personnel from Bade ‘A’ Division, Bade ‘B’ Division, Area Command Gashua, Garin Alkali Division, Yusufari Division and Jakusko Division in collaboration with members of the Peace Group Vigilante embarked on raids of black spots in the three councils.”

Abdulkarim stated that the operation targeted criminal hideouts and drug joints at Buduwa Market, Jakusko Local Government Area.

He further revealed, “During the operation,14 suspects were arrested, while engaging in the sale, consumption, and abuse of illicit drugs and other intoxicating substances,” adding that the suspects are: Hamisu Umar (20), Usman Wakili (25), Aliyu Mohammed (20), Hassan Ali (35), Dudduwa Dorsha (27), Adamu Hussaini (27), Sale Adamu (27), Adamu Umaru (25), Babaru Hassan (28), Dangi Maikudi (22), Hassan Audu (29), Abubakar Usman (29), Ahmadu Waziri (23), and Daudu Yusuf (20).

He said exhibits recovered from them include over 300 sachets and packages of various illicit drugs, including Tramadol, Vega tablets, Indian hemp, and other prohibited and controlled substances.

“Investigation is ongoing, and the suspects are assisting the Police with useful information to facilitate the arrest of other members of the criminal network.,” he said, adding that they will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, has directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders to intensify raids on identified criminal hideouts and blackspots across the State.

He also reiterated the Command’s zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and substance abuse, noting that the menace remains a major catalyst for violent crimes and other criminal activities.

The Command urges members of the public to continue supporting the Police with credible and timely information to sustain the ongoing fight against crime and ensure a safer state.
