The Delta State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its ongoing crackdown on violent crimes, arresting suspected armed robbers, cultists and illegal arms dealers in a series of intelligence-led operations across the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Bright Edafe, disclosed that operatives, working in collaboration with members of the Civilian Anti-Cult Group, arrested suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate linked to several criminal activities in Asaba and surrounding communities.

According to Edafe, on July 14, 2026, at about 5:00 a.m., police operatives acted on credible intelligence regarding the activities of a suspected armed robbery gang and trailed the suspects along the Asaba-Benin Expressway.

The operation resulted in the arrest of Stephen Danladi, 29, from Langtang Local Government Area of Plateau State, and Jude Christian, 26, from Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.
A search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of two locally made pistols.

Further interrogation of the suspects reportedly provided intelligence that led operatives to Issele-Asagba and Ogwashi-Uku, where Jerry Egenus, an indigene of Atuma-Iga in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, was apprehended for his alleged role as a gunrunner and receiver of stolen items.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are members of a notorious gang allegedly responsible for a series of armed robbery attacks in Okpanam, Asaba and neighbouring communities, particularly targeting mobile phones, motorcycles and other valuables.

The police said the suspects and recovered exhibits remain in custody while investigations continue to uncover other members of the criminal network.
In a separate operation on July 12, 2026, at about 4:30 p.m., operatives attached to the Oghara Division intercepted a silver Lexus RX330 SUV bearing registration number GRA-168AM during a surveillance patrol.

The four occupants of the vehicle were subjected to a thorough search, during which officers recovered a locally made cut-to-size firearm concealed on the driver, as well as one live cartridge found inside the vehicle.

The suspects were immediately taken into custody, and investigations are ongoing to determine their involvement in criminal activities.

Similarly, on July 10, 2026, operatives of the Ogwashi-Uku Division responded to a distress call around the Polytechnic area and arrested a 24-year-old non-student suspected to be a member of the notorious Eiye Confraternity.

Recovered from the suspect were one locally made pistol, three live cartridges, one expended cartridge and a dagger.
The suspect and exhibits have been taken into police custody pending the conclusion of investigations and possible prosecution.

The latest arrests underscore the Delta State Police Command’s intensified efforts to combat armed robbery, cultism and the proliferation of illegal firearms across the state.

SP Bright Edafe reiterated the command’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety of residents, urging members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
