The Senior Special Assistant to the Kaduna State Governor on the School Feeding Programme, Fauziya Buhari-Ado, has commended Governor Uba Sani for what she described as far-reaching education reforms that are transforming schools across Kaduna State through improved access, infrastructure and child welfare initiatives.
Buhari-Ado spoke in Abuja after receiving the Award for Excellence and Commitment to Education Advancement at the 2026 Annual Education Summit of the Education Correspondents Association of Nigeria (ECAN).
She dedicated the recognition to Governor Uba Sani, saying the administration’s commitment to education has created an enabling environment for programmes such as the Kaduna State School Feeding Programme to thrive.
According to her, the school feeding initiative has become one of the state’s most effective interventions in boosting school enrolment and retention, particularly among children from disadvantaged communities.
She noted that by providing nutritious meals to pupils, the programme has encouraged more parents to enroll their children in school while reducing absenteeism and improving classroom participation.
“The achievements we are celebrating today would not have been possible without the unwavering support and visionary leadership of Governor Uba Sani, whose commitment to education and human capital development continues to transform lives across Kaduna State,” Buhari-Ado said.
She also praised the governor’s broader investments in education infrastructure, teacher development and social intervention programmes, describing them as evidence of an administration determined to secure a better future for children through quality education.
Expressing gratitude to ECAN for the honour, Buhari-Ado said the award would inspire her and the entire school feeding team to intensify efforts toward improving learning outcomes and ensuring that every child has access to quality education.
She called on governments, development partners, the private sector and communities to sustain support for school feeding programmes, stressing that the initiative remains a critical investment in the health, education and future productivity of children.
The ECAN Annual Education Summit brought together policymakers, education administrators, development partners, journalists and other stakeholders to examine strategies for improving education delivery and accountability in Nigeria.
Speaking at the summit, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, urged education correspondents to embrace data-driven journalism through the Nigeria Education Data Infrastructure Management System, saying reliable data is essential for tracking learning outcomes, promoting transparency and supporting evidence-based policymaking.
Also speaking, the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Ahmad, and the Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Aisha Garba, stressed the need for stronger collaboration among government agencies, development partners, civil society organisations and the media to sustain ongoing education reforms and improve learning outcomes across the country.
The summit concluded with renewed calls for increased investment in education, greater accountability in the sector and stronger partnerships to ensure that every Nigerian child has access to quality basic education.
