The House of Representatives has ordered the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, to produce the self-acclaimed Director-General of the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), Adeyemi Adeniyi, within 48 hours as lawmakers intensify their investigation into the alleged fake agency.

 

The directive was issued on Monday during a resumed investigative hearing by the House committee probing the operations of the organisation at the National Assembly.

 

Chairman of the committee, Yusuf Gagdi, said Adeniyi must appear before lawmakers by 12 noon on Wednesday to clarify issues surrounding the establishment and activities of the council, which the committee said was never legally created.

 

The committee is investigating how the organisation allegedly secured office accommodation at the Federal Secretariat Complex in Abuja and received a ₦1.32 billion allocation in the 2026 Appropriation Act despite questions over its legal status.

 

Representing the IGP, Assistant Commissioner of Police Bashir Abdullahi told lawmakers that the police had already arraigned Adeniyi before the Federal High Court on an eight-count charge, adding that the criminal case remains pending.

 

He disclosed that investigations were launched following petitions alleging that Adeniyi falsely presented himself as the Director-General of both the Presidential Economic Advisory Council and the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council.

 

During the hearing, police officials also confirmed that signatures on documents purportedly issued from the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President did not match authentic official records, reinforcing suspicions that several government documents may have been forged.

 

According to the committee, investigators have identified about 29 suspected forged documents, including purported approvals from the State House, the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, the Ministry of Finance and other government institutions.

 

 

The committee subsequently directed its clerk to formally communicate its resolution to the Inspector-General of Police, insisting that Adeniyi must appear before lawmakers on Wednesday to assist the ongoing investigation.
