WOPU to rally Delta workers for Tinubu, Oborevwori re-election bid

The Executive Management of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the Federal Government’s electricity sector reforms, pledging continued support for strategic investments aimed at improving power infrastructure and energy security following a courtesy visit to Vice President Kashim Shettima.

The delegation, led by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NDPHC, Jennifer Adighije, visited the Vice President, who chairs the company’s Board, at the State House, Abuja, in a show of solidarity after his re-nomination by President Bola Tinubu as running mate for the 2027 presidential election.

According to the company, the visit also underscored the working relationship between the Board and Executive Management as efforts continue to strengthen NDPHC’s role in Nigeria’s electricity value chain.

Speaking during the visit, Adighije congratulated the Vice President on his re-nomination and commended what she described as his leadership and continued support for the company.

“Your Excellency’s guidance and support have provided the enabling environment for NDPHC to consolidate its achievements and pursue its strategic objectives with renewed vigour. We are grateful for your continued commitment to the Company’s success and to the broader development of Nigeria’s electricity value chain,” she said.

She added that the Vice President’s support had helped reposition the company to pursue its mandate of driving strategic investments in Nigeria’s power sector.

Adighije also reaffirmed the company’s commitment to implementing the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda through initiatives aimed at improving electricity infrastructure, enhancing energy security and supporting economic growth.

The company said the visit reflected the shared commitment of its Board and management to strengthening Nigeria’s power sector and delivering sustainable electricity infrastructure projects that support national development.

Shettima, according to the company, appreciated the visit and the goodwill expressed by the management team.
Meanwhile, the Delta State chapter of the Working People United (WOPU) has formally endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, for the 2027 general elections, pledging to mobilise workers and residents across the state to vote for both leaders.

The endorsement was announced during the inauguration of the Delta State chapter of the organisation in Asaba, where labour leaders and members of the group declared their support for the President and the governor, citing what they described as bold economic reforms and good governance.

Speaking at the event, former President of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and National Trustee of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Prince Williams Akporeha, said WOPU had adopted Tinubu as its preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 election because of his willingness to implement difficult but necessary reforms aimed at repositioning Nigeria’s economy.
