A governorship aspirant in Oyo State and United Kingdom-based human rights activist, Barrister Niyi Aborisade [BANA], has warned that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) could witness mass defections if it fails to address its internal challenges and restore confidence among its members.

Aborisade, who disclosed that he is currently a member of the ADC, said the party had gradually lost the momentum it enjoyed when many members joined, attributing the situation to internal wrangling and the pursuit of personal interests.

According to him, unless the leadership urgently reforms the party and resolves its internal issues, many members may be forced to seek alternative political platforms.

“I am currently a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), although I may leave the party soon. The way the party is being run is no longer encouraging.

“When I joined, the party had great momentum, and together we raised its profile. Unfortunately, personal interests and ego have begun to undermine its progress. Unless things change, I believe many members may leave the party,” he said.

The historian stressed that his immediate concern was for the ADC to resolve its internal crisis and produce a credible candidate ahead of future elections.

He noted that the prevailing political atmosphere in Oyo State remained uncertain, with both the ruling and opposition parties grappling with internal challenges.

“The political climate in Oyo State is uncertain for every political party. Even the ruling party is not certain of its position. The All Progressives Congress (APC) has internal challenges, while the ADC is also facing issues, particularly because no candidate has emerged.

“The political terrain is, therefore, very uncertain. We hope these issues will be resolved soon. It is not my concern whether other parties resolve their internal matters or not. My priority is for my party to resolve its own issues and present a credible candidate,” he added.

Aborisade, however, maintained confidence in his governorship ambition, expressing optimism that he would emerge victorious in the 2027 Oyo State governorship election if given the opportunity to contest.

He argued that many of those seeking the state’s top office had yet to present convincing programmes capable of addressing the developmental needs of Oyo State.

“I believe I will be the next governor of Oyo State. Many of those currently in the race have not presented convincing programmes. When the campaign fully begins, the people will see the difference. I am confident that I will win the 2027 governorship election,” he said.
