A high-powered delegation of Kano business leaders and senior government officials met with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, Thursday to press for the immediate release of the ₦5 billion relief fund.

President Bola Tinubu announced a donation of the resource in February 2026 as a relief fund to victims of the Singer Market fire disaster.

The fire outbreak that destroyed property worth billions of naira left several businesses shut and economic crippled in Kano.

In a release by Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, spokesperson to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf disclosed that the meeting intended to facilitate the immediate release of the intervention fund to cushion the impact of the loss.

According to Bature, the delegation led by Alh. Sabiu Bako reminded the Federal Government of the commitment made earlier this year to support thousands of traders whose businesses and means of livelihood were destroyed by the inferno.

Alh. Bako stressed that the prompt release of the intervention fund would bring the much-needed relief to the affected traders and accelerate the recovery of commercial activities at the market.

The business tycoon expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the intervention and appealed for the completion of the process to enable beneficiaries to access the support without further delay.

The delegation comprised the President of the Association of Kano Business; the Commissioner of Finance, Dr. Ismail Aliyu Danmaraya; APC National Ex-Officio, Hon. Muhammad Jamu Yusuf; Chairman of Singer Market, Barrister Junaidu Muhammad Zakari; and businessman, Alhaji Kabiru Adamu Gano.

Responding, the SGF assured the delegation that the concerns raised had been noted and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to fulfill her promise to supporting victims of the Singa Market fire victims.
