The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has commended the Maritime Correspondents Organisation of Nigeria (MARCON) for its steadfast commitment to promoting meaningful dialogue on issues that are vital to the growth and development of the nation’s maritime sector.

Speaking at the MARCON’s 2026 Annual Conference in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Thursday, the Minister stated that the association, has over the years, provided credible platform for constructive engagement among policymakers, industry stakeholders and the media.

The Minister who was represented by the Rivers Port Manager, Kenechi Okezie, noted that MARCON has contributed significantly to the advancement of Nigeria’s maritime sector through sustained advocacy and policy discussions.

Oyetola described the conference theme: “Special Economic Zones (SEZs) as Catalyst to Sustainable Blue Economy,” as timely and relevant, stressing that efficient port infrastructure remains indispensable to enhancing trade, attracting investment and strengthening special economic zones across the country.

Oyetola further reaffirmed the importance of modernising Nigeria’s port infrastructure as a critical step towards unlocking the full potential of the country’s SEZs, boosting trade and attracting investment.

He also emphasised that efficient port infrastructure remains indispensable to achieving the Federal Government’s vision of a sustainable and globally competitive maritime economy.

The Minister expressed confidence that the conference would produce practical ideas, recommendations and foster valuable partnerships capable of further supporting ongoing efforts to modernise the nation’s port system.

Oyetola added that the deliberations would also help unlock the immense opportunities within the maritime sector while advancing the Federal Government’s agenda for the blue economy.

The minister wished participants a successful conference and fruitful deliberations, urging stakeholders to continue working together to strengthen the nation’s maritime industry and maximise its contribution to national economic development.
