Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has described the death of senior Ibadan chief, veteran journalist and public relations icon, Oloye Lekan Alabi, as a monumental loss to Oyo State and Nigeria, saying the deceased’s remarkable contributions to journalism, culture and public service would remain indelible.

In a condolence message, the governor said Chief Alabi lived a life defined by wisdom, integrity and an unwavering commitment to the promotion of Yoruba culture and values, noting that his counsel was sought by leaders across generations.

Makinde said Oyo State had lost one of its finest sons, whose enduring legacy as a journalist, public affairs analyst, elder statesman and community leader would continue to inspire future generations.

He said: “Chief Lekan Alabi was a man of immense wisdom, integrity and dedication. His voice carried the weight of truth, his counsel was sought by leaders across generations, and his commitment to the preservation of Yoruba culture and values was unwavering. Oyo State has lost one of its finest sons.”

The governor extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, the Ibadan community, friends and associates of the late media veteran, praying for the repose of his soul.

Makinde also urged those grieving the loss to take solace in the enduring impact of Alabi’s life and work, describing his contributions to society as worthy of celebration.

“The government and people of Oyo State stand with the Alabi family at this difficult time. May the Almighty grant them strength and comfort, and may Chief Lekan Alabi’s soul rest in perfect peace,” the governor added.
