The Lagos State Judiciary has announced a line-up of activities to mark the commencement of the 2026/2027 legal year, with a thanksgiving service and a stakeholders’ summit scheduled for September.

The Chief Registrar, Mr Tajudeen Elias, made this known on behalf of the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Olanrewaju Alogba, that members of the Bar and Bench, as well as the general public, are invited to participate in the events.

He said the new legal year thanksgiving service will hold on Monday, September 21, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., simultaneously at the Central Mosque, Nnamdi Azikiwe Street, Lagos, and the Cathedral Church of Christ, Marina, Lagos.

The Judiciary noted that the use of both Islamic and Christian worship centres underscores its commitment to inclusivity and religious harmony within the justice sector.

The activities will continue the following day with a legal year summit scheduled for Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at The Jewel Aeida, Lekki, Lagos, also at 10:00 a.m.

The summit is expected to attract a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including judges, legal practitioners, policymakers and academics, who will deliberate on pressing issues affecting the administration of justice in Lagos State and across the country.

The annual legal year ceremony is a longstanding tradition within the judiciary, serving as a platform to review the performance of the past year, set the agenda for the new legal calendar and reaffirm commitment to the rule of law.

The Chief Registrar therefore urged interested participants to direct enquiries and confirm attendance through his office (the Office of the Chief Registrar).
