FMBN assures safety of customers’ documents over fire incident

The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) has assured stakeholders, public and customers of the safety of documents over the fire incident that occurred on the second floor of its Head Office in Abuja, the night of Saturday, 1st August, 2026.

A statement by Joe Abuku,Group Head Corporate Communications,
stated, “though damages have been done to furniture, equipment and appliances in the affected areas, we are grateful to report that official documents that were affected are securely backed up electronically.”

Abuku also added,the inferno was successfully contained and prevented from spreading to other parts of the building.We continue to express our profound appreciation to the Fire Service, the Police, members of staff and all whose cooperation and timely response helped to quench the fire situation.

He further explained that thorough investigations and evaluations to establish the cause of the fire are still ongoing, while appropriate business continuity and mitigation measures are in place to ensure minimal disruption to service delivery.

The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria therefore reassured all stakeholders, customers, and the general public that this unfortunate development has not compromised the Bank’s operations.

The Group Head Corporate Communications, however hinted that the office will remain open for normal business activities, and the Bank will provide further updates as new information comes to light.
