Chairmen and key members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ogun East Senatorial District have announced their defection from the party to support the governorship ambition of Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, ahead of the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.

The defectors made their position known during an interactive session held over the weekend with groups seeking to work with the senator, who is aspiring to secure the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, the ADC Chairman for Ijebu North East Local Government Area and Chairman of ADC Local Government Chairmen in Ogun State, Dr. Erinle Opeoluwa, said the decision followed consultations among party leaders across Ogun East.

According to him, the group resolved to align with Adeola after years of operating in opposition without electoral success.
“We have decided to pitch our tent with Senator Adeola because we are tired of playing opposition politics that has yielded little over the last three election cycles,” he said.

Opeoluwa added that the group considered the political dynamics ahead of the 2027 governorship election and concluded that Adeola’s record of attracting infrastructure and empowerment projects to Ogun State, despite not being governor, influenced their decision.

Among those who declared support for the senator were Hon. Kazeem Bolaji Adebanjo (Ijebu North), Hon. Dehinsilu Ayodele Olusegun (Ikenne), Hon. Gbade  Oluwasegun (Ijebu-Ode), Hon. Shittu Rasaq Titilola (Ijebu East), Omooba Hassan Kazeem (Sagamu), Prince Adegoroye Osubukola (Remo North), Alhaji Salisu Abdulwaheed (Odogbolu), as well as ADC chieftains Hon. Ibidunni Fatai Adetola and Hon. Yemi Macauley from Ijebu-Ode.

Macauley said the decision was also informed by what he described as the existing support for Adeola among many ADC members and supporters through various political support groups.
He claimed that many party faithful had already identified with the senator’s governorship aspiration and were unwilling to withdraw their backing.

Other groups that declared support for Adeola during the interactive session included the leadership of the Market Men and Women of Remoland, led by the Iya Oloja General of Remoland, Chief (Mrs.) Olasonde Oduwaiye, the Miraculous Movement for Yayi, some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members from Abeokuta North Local Government Area, and OGD Coordinators from Ogun East Senatorial District.

Responding, Adeola assured the defectors and other support groups that they would be accommodated within his campaign structure if he emerges as the APC candidate.

He said his political platform would be inclusive and open to all residents of Ogun State willing to contribute to his vision for the state’s development.

“You have made the right decision to join this movement to make Ogun State better from 2027. You are not joining to work for me but to work with me in building a better state. I assure you that your support will be appreciated and you will not be taken for granted”.

The development comes as political consultations and realignments continue to gather momentum across Ogun State ahead of the 2027 governorship contest

Meanwhile, the  African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Ogun State has dismissed reports that its Ogun East Senatorial District structure has collapsed into the All Progressives Congress, APC, in support of Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, describing  the claims as false and misleading.

Reacting to the development, the ADC State Publicity Secretary, Olumide Onabajo, said the report did not reflect the true position in the party.

Onabajo insisted that the party remained “united, functional, and firmly committed to winning the forthcoming elections in the state,” stressing that no collapse of its structure has occurred in the Ogun East district.

According to the party, the individuals reported to have joined the APC acted “strictly in their personal capacities” and their decisions do not amount to a collapse of the party’s structure.

Onabajo added that ADC structures across the nine local government areas in Ogun East “remain intact, operational, and committed to strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 general elections”.

The ADC image maker accused those behind the report of deliberate misrepresentation intended to create “a false impression of political reality” in the senatorial district.

He urged members, supporters, and the general public to disregard the narrative, saying the ADC “remains focused, united, and resolute in providing a credible alternative for the people of Ogun State”.
