Major General Auwalu Mahmuda has officially assumed command as the 56th General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 2 Division, Nigerian Army, with a pledge to consolidate the operational gains recorded by the Division in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities.

The handing and taking over ceremony was held at the Headquarters, 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Ibadan, marking a significant transition in the leadership of one of the Nigerian Army’s key operational formations.

Speaking during the ceremony, Major General Mahmuda expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, for the confidence reposed in him through his appointment. He assured officers and soldiers of his commitment to building on the achievements of his predecessor while strengthening the Division’s operational effectiveness.

He pledged to sustain ongoing efforts aimed at enhancing security, professionalism, discipline and operational readiness across the Division’s area of responsibility, noting that the Nigerian Army would continue to work closely with other security agencies and stakeholders in addressing security challenges.

The new GOC urged officers and personnel of the Division to remain loyal, disciplined and committed to the discharge of their duties, stressing that teamwork, dedication and adherence to professional ethics would remain critical to achieving the Division’s mandate.

Mahmuda also emphasised his commitment to the welfare of troops, promising to create an enabling environment that would motivate personnel to perform optimally while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism.

Earlier, the outgoing General Officer Commanding formally handed over the command of the Division to Major General Mahmuda, expressing confidence in his capacity to provide effective leadership and sustain the momentum of ongoing operations.

The ceremony featured the signing of handing-over documents, presentation of the command flag, inspection of a quarter guard and interaction with senior officers, commanders and other personnel of the Division.

The 2 Division, headquartered in Ibadan, is one of the Nigerian Army’s strategic formations with responsibility for maintaining peace and security across parts of the South-West and supporting internal security operations in collaboration with other security agencies.
