The Federal High Court has begun the phased relocation of its Lagos Judicial Division from its longstanding premises at Oyinkan Abayomi Drive, Ikoyi, to a newly completed court complex on Bourdillon Road, in a move aimed at improving judicial efficiency and service delivery.

The transition, which follows the completion of the modern facility located at No. 1B, Bourdillon Road, Ikoyi.

The relocation is being carried out in stages to ensure continuity of court proceedings and minimise disruptions to administrative operations.

In a public notice issued by the Chief Registrar of the court, Yahaya Yakubu Shafa, the judiciary confirmed that the exercise had received approval upon completion of the new complex.

He explained that the phased approach was carefully designed to guarantee a seamless transition for judges, court staff and users.

The first phase of the relocation includes Vacation Courts 7 and 12, alongside Courts 2, 3, 4 and 5.

Key administrative units have also been scheduled for immediate movement, including the offices of the Chief Registrar, Deputy Chief Registrars and the Electronic Litigation Registrar of Process (ELRP).

Shafa added that other courts and offices would be relocated subsequently as the process progresses.

The notice, addressed to the Nigerian Bar Association, litigants, the Lagos State Government and members of the public, urged stakeholders to take note of the development and make necessary adjustments.

The relocation marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts to modernise court infrastructure in Lagos.

The new Bourdillon Road complex is expected to provide a more conducive environment for the administration of justice, enhance operational efficiency and improve the overall experience of court users.

Legal practitioners and litigants with matters before the affected courts have been advised to verify the venues of their proceedings as the phased movement continues.

Though further updates are expected as the remaining courts and offices are moved to the new facility.
