The Zamfara State Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project has reviewed the construction of 42 new secondary schools and held a strategic review meeting with the Construction Supervision Consultants engaged for the construction of 42 new Junior and Senior Secondary Schools across the 14 Local Government Areas of the State under Sub-component 1.1.

The meeting, presided over by the Component Lead, Arc. Ibrahim Ahmed Nahuche, provided a platform for the consultants to present the outcome of their preliminary reviews and assess their readiness for effective supervision of the project implementation.

The Construction Supervision Consultants engaged for the assignment are Mega Projects Nigeria Limited, which will supervise three construction lots covering Gummi, Bukkuyum, Anka, Bakura, Talata Mafara, Maradun, Maru, Bungudu and part of Gusau Local Government Areas, and Chediya Ventures, which will supervise two construction lots covering Shinkafi, Zurmi, Birnin Magaji, Kaura Namoda, Tsafe and part of Gusau Local Government Areas.

During the meeting, the consultants presented reviews conducted on key project implementation documents and activities, including the adequacy of contractors’ work schedules.

Site -specific Bills of Quantities (BoQs), Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs) developed by the contractors in comparison with the ESMP prepared by the Zamfara State Project Implementation Unit (SPIU).

Security Management Plans submitted by the Security Consultant appointed by the SPIU and familiarization visits and physical site verification exercises.

The review sessions provided the consultants with a comprehensive understanding of the project requirements, enabling them to commence construction supervision, with adequate technical, environmental, social and security information necessary for the successful delivery of the schools.

Speaking during the meeting, Arc. Nahuche emphasised the importance of strict adherence to quality standards, approved specifications and project timelines, urging the consultants to discharge their responsibilities with professionalism, diligence and integrity to ensure the successful execution of the project across all benefiting communities.

The meeting further reflected the unwavering commitment of the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal to transforming the education sector through sustained investments in infrastructure, particularly in expanding access to quality secondary education for adolescent girls across Zamfara State.

It also underscores the ongoing efforts of the Hon. Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Malam Abdulmalik Abubakar Gajam, towards the effective implementation of the state of Emergency on Education, with a focus on improving learning environments and strengthening educational outcomes throughout the State.

The Project Coordinator, Hajiya Sa’adatu Abdu Gusau, reiterated the need for all stakeholders, including contractors, consultants, host communities and government agencies, to play their respective roles in ensuring the successful implementation of the project.

She added that collaborative efforts remain critical to achieving increased enrolment, improved retention and successful completion of secondary school education, especially for adolescent girls in Zamfara State.
