The Yobe State Police Command has nabbed a 28-year-old man for allegedly rustling 19 cows in the Bursari Local Council Area of the state.

The command said Umar Sanda, a resident of Lafiya Fulani community in Katagum Local Council AreaState of Bauchi state, was arrested on 31st July 2026, while in possession of the 19 rustled cattle.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, announced the cattle rustling gathering in a statement released on Wednesday morning in Damaturu, the state capital.

He added that the arrest of the suspect and the swift interception of the stolen cows followed a credible intelligence gathering in the Yobe-Bauchi axis.

According to him, operatives of the Garin Alkali Divisional Police Headquarters acted on the intelligence and intercepted the suspect with the cattle at the outskirts of Dumburi Village in Masaba Ward, Bursari LGA.

“The suspect claimed during preliminary interrogation that the cattle belonged to his brother, who resides at the same address. However, he could not properly account for the ownership and lawful possession of the animals or provide satisfactory details to substantiate his claim,” he said.

Beyond the arrest and interception of rustled cattle, Abdulkadir added that the suspect had been taken into custody, while the 19 cows were secured pending the outcome of investigations to establish the rightful ownership of the livestock and determine whether any offence had been committed.

The State’s Commissioner of Police,, Usman Jibrin, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling cattle rustling and other crimes in the state.
