The Cross River State Judiciary has officially commenced the Legal Vacation for the 2026/2027 Legal Year.

According to a release by the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary, Iquo Ekanem made available to The Guardian in Calabar, the vacation began on Sunday, August 3, 2026 and will end on Friday, September 25, 2026.

During the period, two judges have been designated to handle urgent matters:

Justice Eno Ebri who will be sitting at High Court No. 8, Calabar.will serve as Vacation Judge for Calabar, Akamkpa, Akpabuyo and Ugep Judicial Divisions while Justice Daniel Kulo who will serve as Vacation Judge for Obubra, Ikom, Ogoja and Obudu Judicial Divisions will sit at the High Court of Justice, Ogoja.

The release stated that special authority may be granted, upon written request, to other judges to complete urgent and pressing matters where necessary.

It also noted that all Magistrates’ Courts and Customary Courts across the state shall remain open and be in session throughout the vacation period.

The release further stated that the 2026/2027 Legal Year will formally commence on Monday, September 28, 2026 with a series of activities including a church Service at The Apostolic Church, Nigeria, No. 32 Edgerley, Calabar by 11:00am to be followed Immediately by inspection of a Guard of Honour mounted by a detachment of the Nigeria Police iby the Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Akon Ikpeme at the High Court Complex,

A Special Court Session will also be held at High Court No. 1, Judiciary Headquarters, Mary Slessor Avenue, Calabar. All Judges, Magistrates, staff, Law Officers and legal practitioners are expected to attend in their full robes.

The commencement of the new legal year marks the resumption of full judicial activities across all divisions in the state after the vacation period.
