The Civil Society Coalition for Human Equality Initiative (CSCHEI), a United Nations-recognised platform of accredited Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and Community-Based Organisations (CBOs), has commended President Bola Tinubu for directing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to vacate the court order freezing the Osun State Government’s accounts.

 

The coalition described the President’s intervention as a demonstration of proactive and responsive leadership, saying it reflected his commitment to fairness, due process and the rule of law.

 

The commendation follows President Tinubu’s directive to the EFCC to immediately vacate the court order obtained on August 5, 2026, freezing the Osun State Government’s accounts.

 

The President had expressed concern over the action, stressing that while anti-corruption agencies must be allowed to perform their constitutional responsibilities, their operations should not disrupt governance or create the impression of political interference.

 

In a statement signed by its Director-General, Kunle Yusuff, CSCHEI affirmed its support for the EFCC’s anti-corruption mandate, noting that all individuals or institutions with questions to answer should be subjected to lawful investigation without prejudice.

 

“As an accredited civil society platform, we acknowledge the responsibilities and mandate of the EFCC and affirm that any suspicious accounts should be answerable to the appropriate authorities without political interference,” the statement said.

 

The coalition disclosed that some of its member organisations have been collaborating with the anti-graft agency through advocacy and public enlightenment campaigns aimed at strengthening the fight against corruption across the country.

 

“It is a known fact that some of our members have been collaborating with the EFCC on advocacy and public enlightenment to ensure that all corrupt elements in Nigeria are eliminated by every lawful means,” it added.

 

Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and accountability, CSCHEI pledged continued collaboration with relevant government institutions in advancing the anti-corruption campaign.

 

The group also praised President Tinubu for what it described as a timely administrative intervention, saying it reinforced public confidence in his leadership.

 

“Every indicator has proven that Nigeria has a listening President, and we use this opportunity to thank the President for giving the operational and administrative directive to unfreeze the Osun State Government account without political interference,” the statement added.

 

CSCHEI maintained that preserving the independence of anti-corruption institutions while ensuring that their actions do not impede democratic governance remains essential to strengthening public trust in Nigeria’s justice system.
