Four young Nigerian girls from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, have emerged global finalists in the 2026 Technovation Girls Global Challenge with AgeWell, an artificial intelligence-powered mobile application designed to address challenges faced by elderly people.

Team Appsolute will travel to Bengaluru, India, in October to represent Nigeria and Africa at the 2026 Technovation Girls World Summit and compete for the Beginner Division Global Prize.

The young innovators — 11-year-old Akachukwu Blessed Nwachukwu, 11-year-old Ifunanya Gabriella Okoye, 9-year-old Onyinyechi Daniella Okoye and 9-year-old Mmerichukwu Esther Nwachukwu — were selected as one of only five teams to compete in the Beginner Division finals in Bengaluru, India.

Their selection followed a highly competitive 2026 season in which more than 12,000 girls from over 130 countries participated, submitting more than 3,600 mobile app and artificial intelligence projects.

This latest achievement comes barely one year after Akachukwu and Ifunanya won the 2025 Technovation Girls Beginner Division Grand Prize with StayWoke, an AI-powered mobile application designed to tackle drowsy driving.

The duo returned to the competition in 2026, expanding Team Appsolute with the addition of Onyinyechi and Mmerichukwu.

Together, the four girls developed AgeWell, an AI-powered solution aimed at supporting elderly people facing loneliness, neglect and other challenges associated with ageing.

The app uses artificial intelligence and mobile technology to promote the safety, independence and economic inclusion of senior citizens. It features an AI-powered fall detection system designed to identify when an elderly person has fallen and facilitate access to assistance.

AgeWell also provides opportunities for older adults to share their knowledge and skills and earn income from their experience, helping them remain active, connected and economically engaged.

According to the official results announced by Technovation Girls, Team Appsolute will compete alongside teams from Canada, Spain, Mexico and Japan, making the Nigerian girls the only African team among the five Beginner Division global finalists.

The achievement marks Team Appsolute’s second consecutive appearance at the Technovation Girls Global Finals with two different AI-powered solutions addressing real-world problems.

The young innovators were trained and mentored by Somkenechukwu Chukwudera Mamah, founder, Code Ambassadors Academy with the amazing support from their parents, Mrs. Treasure Nwachukwu and Mrs. Chinenye Okoye.

Speaking on the remarkable success of Team Appsolute, Mrs. Chinenye Okoye, Director of the Creators DigiTech School described the girls achievement as a perfect reflection of her school’s core philosophy: skills over certificates.

“What makes this achievement particularly significant is the consistency it represents. It proves that when you equip children with practical, project-based STEM education, their success is never a one-off. They learn to be creators, look at different problems, build real-world solutions, and consistently earn their place among the best innovators in the world.” Mrs Okoye said.

According to the founder of Code Ambassadors Academy, Mr. Somkenechukwu Mamah who mentored the team, “Increased investment in technology education for Nigerian children, early exposure to coding, artificial intelligence, robotics and other emerging technologies could help raise a new generation of creators and problem-solvers.

“Team Appsolute’s journey shows the enormous potential that exists among Nigerian children. With the right training, mentorship and opportunities, they can build solutions to local and global problems and compete successfully on the world stage,” Mr. Somkenechukwu said.
