…In Rescue of Seven abducted Polytechnic Students

Ogun State Police Command yesterday confirmed the killing of three suspected kidnappers in the joint rescue operation of seven students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, last week Thursday.

The victims, who were abducted at their hostel on July 29, 2026 at about 1940hrs, along Paraga Street, Ipara, Ogun State, regained freedom and were successful handed over to their various families by Ogun State Government.

The rescue operation included the joint efforts of Nigeria Army, the Department of State Security(DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps(NSCDC), the Ogun Security Network Agency( Amotekun Corps) local vigilantes and hunters.

Spokesperson of the Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed this to newmen in a statement in Abeokuta, the state capital yesterday.

Babaseyi said that upon the receipt of the information, the Anti-kidnapping Unit of the Command in collaboration with the other security agencies embarked on painstaking intelligence gathering and coordinated operations to locate the kidnapers hideout and rescue the victims.

He said that the ongoing operations received additional aerial support on August 3, 2026, following a request by Governor, Dapo Abiodun, to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu to deployment of a Police helicopter from the Police Air Wing to complement the ground operations.

The Police Public Relations Officer said that as at August 6, 2026 at about 0200hrs, the anti-kidnapping operatives, supported by DSS personnel and other security agencies acted  on credible intelligence, located and stormed the suspected kidnappers’ hideout along the Sagamu-Abeokuta Expressway.

He stated that on sighting the security operatives, the suspects engaged them  in a gun battle, during which three suspected kidnappers were neutralised, while other members of the gang escaped with suspected gunshot wounds.

Babaseyi said that the victims were successfully rescued and were immediately taken to the Police Hospital for medical attention and of the victims sustained a gunshot injury during the incident and received appropriate treatment.

He noted that exhibits recovered from the hideout include : one AK-47 rifle, one empty magazine, four mobile phones and ₦2.3 million in cash.

The Command’s Spokesperson added that bodies of the deceased suspects were deposited at the State Hospital Morgue, Ijaiye, Abeokuta, for autopsy,  while the security agencies intensified intelligence gathering to locate and apprehending the fleeing members of the gang.
