A disturbing family tragedy has unfolded in Sangere Quarters, in Gombi Local Government Council of Adamawa state, where a 32-year-old man, Peter Michael Sinamai, is alleged to have killed his biological father and dumped his remains in a well in an attempt to conceal the crime.

Sinamai, who was arrested by the police following a complaint from a good Samaritan in the community, reportedly confessed to the killing during an exclusive interview at the Adamawa state Police Command Headquarters in Yola.

With remorse evident in his account, the suspect attributed the incident to anger, alcohol and drug use, while also alleging that his late father had subjected him and his siblings to harsh treatment over the years.

The suspect claimed that tensions escalated after he got married and brought his wife to the family home.

According to him, his father allegedly disliked his wife and repeatedly beat her, forcing him to seek medical treatment for her after one of the alleged assaults.

“I married and brought my wife to the house. My dad had never liked her. He beat her countless times, and I even had to treat her the last time.”

Sinamai said the situation eventually pushed him into a state of anger, which he claimed was worsened by his consumption of alcohol and drugs.
He recalled that on the day of the incident, he returned home tired and drunk and found his father lying outside the house.

“I was overwhelmed by anger. Even though I drink and do drugs, that very day I came back home tired and drunk. I met him lying outside the house.”

The suspect alleged that after discovering that his mother was asleep, he picked up a stick and struck his father twice on the head. “I used a stick on his head twice. He died instantly.”

Rather than report the incident, Sinamai said he panicked and allegedly attempted to conceal the death by dragging his father’s body into a well and covering it. “To cover my sin, I had to drag him into a well and cover it.”

But what the suspect allegedly hoped would remain hidden eventually came to the attention of the community, leading to police intervention and his arrest.
‘I Know I Have Done Wrong’

Now in police custody, Sinamai says he is deeply remorseful and is asking for forgiveness from the public and his immediate family.

“I regret my actions now. I am pleading that society should forgive me, and my immediate family should also have mercy on me. I know I have done wrong.”

The case has since raised serious questions within the community about the circumstances that could lead a son to allegedly take the life of his own father and then attempt to conceal the remains.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Adamawa State Police Command, Suleiman Ngurore, confirmed the arrest of Sinamai.

Ngurore said the suspect allegedly killed his father and dumped the corpse in a well with the intention of preventing suspicion and concealing any trace of the crime.

According to the PPRO, police operatives in the area immediately swung into action after receiving a complaint from a good Samaritan in the community.

The police investigation subsequently led to the apprehension of the suspect.
Ngurore said the suspect would be charged in court after thorough interrogation and completion of the necessary investigation.

He further disclosed that Sinamai would undergo medical examination as part of the investigation.

The police spokesman said the incident remained particularly disturbing because of the allegation that a young man deliberately killed his own biological father.

As the investigation continues, the case has left residents of Sangere Quarters grappling with a grim question: How did years of alleged family conflict, anger and substance use culminate in the death of a father at the hands of his own son?
