The Electronic Education Initiative (E-DON) has taken the digital transformation agenda for Nigeria’s Colleges of Education to the global stage, exposing education leaders to artificial intelligence, emerging technologies, innovation and international partnerships at its 2026 Global Leadership Conference in Istanbul, Türkiye.

The six-day conference, held from August 3 to 8 under the theme, “Empowering Digital Transformation in Education – Leveraging World Emerging Technologies and Partnerships,” brought together members of the Committee of Provosts of Nigerian Colleges of Education and international partners to explore technology-driven solutions for the country’s education sector.

Led by E-DON’s National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Idonuagbe O. Akogun, the programme featured institutional visits and strategic engagements designed to expose Nigerian education managers to global models of digital education, research, artificial intelligence, technology transfer, entrepreneurship and university-industry collaboration.

The Nigerian delegation visited leading Turkish technology and educational ecosystems, including Marmara Teknokent, Gebze Technical University and Istanbul Aydın University, as well as multinational technology company Synergizier, led by Dr. Ali Chan Kurt.

At the conference hosted by Istanbul Aydın University, the Chairman of the Committee of Provosts and other heads of Colleges of Education examined possible areas of collaboration with international institutions, with discussions covering electronic education, digital transformation, alternative energy and disability inclusion.

The engagements also explored how emerging technologies and global partnerships could be deployed to strengthen teaching, learning, research, innovation and institutional management across Nigeria’s Colleges of Education.

Akogun commended the Committee of Provosts, led by its Chairman and Provost of the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo State, Dr. Rauf Salami, for its support and active participation in the initiative.

He equally acknowledged the leadership of the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), Dr. Angela Ajala, particularly her efforts towards repositioning Colleges of Education to meet the demands of the digital age.

E-DON also expressed appreciation to the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) for its support towards participants at the conference, noting that investment in international exposure and capacity development remains critical to the transformation of Nigeria’s tertiary education system.

The organisation also recognised Turkey Trainings and Diamond Gates for their partnership and contribution to the successful delivery of the Istanbul programme.

The conference ended with review and feedback sessions, certificate presentation and farewell activities, but E-DON said the initiative would continue to pursue partnerships capable of translating the lessons and exposure gained in Türkiye into practical reforms within Nigerian institutions.

The successful completion of GLC 2026, according to E-DON, reinforces its commitment to building stronger Nigerian educational institutions through digital transformation, innovation, technology-driven education and global collaboration.
