The Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU), Gombe State University branch has announced the commencement of a total, comprehensive and indefinite strike action over unresolved grievances with the Gombe State Government.

In a statement signed by the branch chairperson, Dr. Mustapha S. Muhammad, and Secretary, Dr. Aliyu Umar Shelleng, and issued to journalists on Tuesday, the union said the decision followed directives from the ASUU National Executive Council (NEC), after a visitation to the branch.

According to the statement, the Congress of ASUU GSU held its meeting on Monday and received the NEC report on the grievances with the state government, among other issues.

The branch said it had resolved to embark on the strike upon the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the government, if the issues remained unaddressed.

“The ultimatum begins from today, 11 August, 2026,” the statement said.

The union did not detail the specific grievances in the statement, but noted that the action would be total and comprehensive.

The development comes amid ongoing negotiations between ASUU and various state governments over welfare, funding and other issues affecting universities across the country.
