The Adamawa State Police Command has secured the conviction of three persons for house breaking, theft in a dwelling house, concealment of stolen property and receiving stolen property.

The three suspects were sentenced to between three and seven years imprisonment without an option of fine by Chief Magistrate Court 3, Yola.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Yola, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Kabir Umar Hassan.

The case followed a complaint lodged by Ahmad Aliyu of Rumde Ward, Jimeta, who reported that John Ishaya allegedly broke into his residence at about 3:00 a.m. and stole a laptop, power bank and two pairs of jumpers valued at N300,000.

Police investigations subsequently established that Muhammadu Hassan of Yelwa Ward allegedly assisted in concealing and selling the stolen items to Abdul’aziz Hassan of Rumde Ward.

The First Information Report (FIR) was read to the three defendants before the court, after which they pleaded guilty to the offences.

The prosecution, led by Inspector Umar Abdullahi, called two witnesses, including the nominal complainant and the investigating police officer, and tendered the recovered exhibits before the court.

After considering the evidence and the defendants’ guilty pleas, the court convicted and sentenced them accordingly.

John Ishaya was sentenced to three years imprisonment without an option of fine for house breaking and seven years imprisonment without an option of fine for theft in a dwelling house. The sentences are to run concurrently.

Muhammadu Hassan was sentenced to seven years imprisonment without an option of fine for assisting in the concealment of stolen property, while Abdul’aziz Hassan was sentenced to seven years imprisonment without an option of fine for dishonestly receiving stolen property.

Reacting to the judgment, the Commissioner of Police, Kabir Umar Hassan, commended the judiciary for the timely dispensation of justice.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to diligent investigation and prosecution of criminal cases in the state.

The Commissioner also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the Police to assist in preventing and combating crime.
